3 Reasons To Shoot In 4K

If you’re a business looking to have your next marketing video or event filmed, you may be wondering what the benefits of shooting in 4K are. It may seem logical that shooting in the highest resolution available is a good idea, but there are issues like large file sizes, long transfer times and higher costs associated with 4K production that may make you think twice before jumping in. On the other hand, 4K footage offers fantastic resolution and greater flexibility in the video editing phase which is certainly a plus.
Here are 3 reasons to shoot in 4K:
1. Increased Resolution
4K, or what’s commonly called Ultra High Definition (UHD), is 4 times the horizontal and vertical resolution of Full HD. Whereas Full HD has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, UHD has a resolution of 3840×2160. This enormous increase in pixel count results in a stunning increase in image quality that is sure to increase the overall production level of your next project.
2. Archiving
Although 4K production is not the mainstream format for web and broadcast, that doesn’t mean it won’t be in the future. Therefore, why not capture the footage for your next project in the highest resolution possible so that when 4K does become the mainstream you have the flexibility of using it. In the meantime, you can still use the 4K footage that was captured for your since it can easily be down converted to Full HD.
3. Down Converting
Even though your final video may be down converted from 4K to Full HD, it is still possible to take advantage of the increased resolution offered by 4K. For example, let’s say that you’re looking to film a series of guest speakers at your next corporate event. If the event was filmed in 4K and the video editors decide to zoom in on the speaker during the post production phase, the high resolution of 4K will allow you to do so while still maintaining sharpness.

Based upon the above considerations, however, there may be times that increasing your project to include 4K video capture may be a wise decision.
